Quinoa Grain White Organic
Quinoa, pronounced ‘keen-wa’ is an excellent alternative to starchy grains as it is wheat-free! There are two types, creamy white which seems to be the most popular and red. It is grown in South America and has formed the staple diet of the Incas and their descendants for thousands of years.
This amazing grain contains almost twice as much fibre as most other grains making it a great aid to help relieve constipation. It is also known to help prevent heart disease by reducing the effects of diabetes and high blood pressure.
Quinoa is naturally gluten-free and contains B-vitamins, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, vitamin E and fibre. It is one of only a few plant foods that are considered a complete protein and comprised of all pernine essential amino acids. The iron in quinoa helps to keep our red blood cells healthy as it aids in carrying oxygen from one cell to another as well as providing many other health benefits.
Quinoa also contains lysine which is essential for tissue repair and growth. The magnesium content helps to relax blood vessels and Vitamin B2 improves energy metabolism and manganese which is a powerful antioxidant.
The demand for quinoa has grown significantly in recent years and it has become quite trendy in many restaurants. In the UK and the US it is known as a superior alternative to couscous, rice and bulgur wheat. Even though it often occupies a similar role to these grains in dishes, quinoa is actually in the same family as beets and spinach.
This versatile food can compliment many recipes and provides an excellent source of protein when added to salads and vegetarian dishes.
